Description South Thames College, Wandsworth
Challenge Restricted access in a confined city-centre site

South Thames College is a further education college offering vocational courses for students of all ages. The £100 million redevelopment of their Wandsworth site includes a new Sports Hall - designed to Sport England Club standards and a large Performance Theatre for drama and dance. Scheduled to open in September 2009, both facilities will be available to local residents as part of the colleges goal to promote strong community relationships.

The project involved a range of access challenges on this confined city-centre site. As well as perimeter scaffolding, SGB (Formerly Harsco Infrastructure) constructed a cantilevered access deck at roof level, a range of internal access structures around the distinctive inclined steel columns, edge protection structures and vertical circulation routes between floors.
