Description Langley Academy, Slough
Challenge Access to the curved walls which varied in radius along their length

The Langley Academy is a college-style school campus that serves the young people of Langley and the Slough area. Housed in an iconic new building complex, designed by Foster and Partners, it specialises in science, pioneering the use of museum learning and also aims to become a centre of excellence for sports, notably rowing and cricket.

The key aspect of this project for SGB (Formerly Harsco Infrastructure) was providing access to the curved walls which varied in radius along their length. Using our CUPLOK® system scaffolding with its unique circular node fixing allowed continuous runs of scaffolding to be erected right around the building, giving clear, open working platforms for all trades. The CUPLOK® structure incorporated staircases and loading towers as well as providing hop-up platforms to provide easy, unrestricted access to all parts of the elevations.

SGB also provided powered access equipment to give unrestricted access for the final phases of the timber cladding to this distinctive building.
