Description St. Paul's Cathedral, London
Challenge Design and errect a unique access solution for exterior cleaning of historic building of a great importance

The Portland stone exterior of St. Paul’s was cleaned in time for its 300th anniversary in 2008 and it was essential that the stone masons and stone cleaners involved had safe and speedy access to every inch of the works.

On the St. Paul’s project, SGB (Formerly Harsco Infrastructure) supplied CUPLOK® on the three elevations of the transept and under the portico. The demands of the semi-circular façade and roof meant that a specially designed bridge had to be installed over the top portico.

A special CUPLOK® ‘birdcage’ also had to be built inside to reach the interior of the portico. SGB had also implemented a CUPLOK® staircase, electric hoist and electric hoist tower to enable this project to be completed successfully.
